Major Ridge Trail, the street on which this home is situated, takes its name from the Cherokee Indian leader, Major Ridge, who received his commission from Andrew Jackson. Major Ridge operated a trading post and ferry at his log cabin, on the banks of the Oostanaula River. He greatly expanded the cabin, which served as the headquarters for his plantation. The estate was later converted into a museum and was named a National Historic Landmark.
